I thought Broadbent’s TED talk the other day was pretty interesting and, for the most part, I agree with what she says about the internet enabling intimacy. I know she had mentioned Skype at one point and she told a story about families being in different parts of the world and eating dinner “together” over Skype. That stuck with me. I think Skype definitely allows friends and family to build their relationships while apart from one another. Especially being in college now, Skype is a great way to stay in touch with friends and “hang out with them” without being together physically.
While some may argue that social medias tend to isolate people more than anything, I think there are definitely several that allow people to strengthen relationships and be social.
