I saw this article on NY Times online and it is fairly relevant to our class. NYC police officers were assigned to an event- the West Indian American Day Parade in Brooklyn - that is known to break out in violence. There was a Facebook group about the parade where people were bashing the parade itself as well as West Indian and African-American neighborhoods in the city. It turns out that a few comments on the Facebook group were made by a few of the police officers were assigned to the event. Of course people are now upset with police officers and the police department in general and this is now causing a big debate.
It is interesting how big of a role the Internet plays and how much of an affect it has on society.
